A homeowner who shot a man in the foot Monday night will not face charges, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting stems from an argument which occurred at a residence in the 3000 block of Highway 301 in the Halifax area, Chief Deputy Scott Hall said.

Shortly after 7:15 p.m. deputies responded after receiving a report a man had been shot in the foot.

Deputies learned the man who was shot had been arguing with the homeowner. The gunshot victim then left the residence and later returned armed with a baseball bat.

Hall said in a statement that the victim approached the homeowner with the bat “in an aggressive manner.” The homeowner discharged one round toward the ground and struck the victim in the foot.

The victim was transported to Vidant North and later released in good condition.
