A stolen weapon was recovered along with 3.8 grams of marijuna Monday night, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported.

A 19-year-old was arrested and charged and juvenile petitions will be drawn for a 16-year-old passenger following the traffic stop shortly before 11 p.m.

Chief Bobby Martin said the stop occurred while Officer Hunter Baker was patrolling in the area of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway when he noticed a vehicle that did not have all lights operating.

Baker conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and talked with the driver — Kaijuan Brown, the 19-year-old — and the juvenile passenger.

Baker noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and after running a check, it was determined Brown’s license was revoked.

Officer T. Acree assisted as the officers checked the vehicle. Two handguns — a 9mm and .40-caliber — were located. One came back as stolen from Halifax County. The marijuana was also discovered.

Brown was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, driving while license revoked, fictitious tags, and carrying a concealed weapon.

He received a $2,000 bond and October 28 court date.

The juvenile will be charged with possession of a stolen firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
