A Friday crash on East Tenth Street near Becker Drive resulted in an injury and a DWI charge for a Roanoke Rapids man.
Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said 56-year-old Glen Patterson has a December 10 district court date after he was charged by a magistrate. He received a $1,000 bond.
Martin said Officer S. Langley responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. and discovered two vehicles were involved in a collision.
One of the drivers of a vehicle was attempting to make a left turn into Big Time Pawn when a vehicle driven by Patterson merged into the same lane and collided head-on with the vehicle turning into the business.
A passenger in Patterson’s vehicle sustained injuries in the crash and was initially transported to Vidant North and later to Greenville for further treatment.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. After further investigation officers took Patterson into custody for suspicion of DWI.
He was then carried before a magistrate.
Martin said there were no other severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Sergeant J. Horne assisted.
