A man with ties to Halifax County is wanted in the Wednesday shooting death of a Garysburg man.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Scott Hall said that Chaundler Robert Lashley, 29, should be considered armed and dangerous.
Lashley, who may also go by the name Chaundler Burch, has ties to the area from his childhood as well as ties to New York and Florida.
Hall said it is believed Lashley has fled the area.
A warrant for murder has been obtained for his arrest in the shooting death of 58-year-old Willie Carl Clements.
Hall said the motive in the case remains under investigation.
Lashley has been entered into national criminal databases.
Authorities learned that Clements was shot and killed following a house fire call just outside the city limits of Roanoke Rapids on Nations Road.
Deputies around 5:45 p.m. responded to the residence to assist the Rheasville Volunteer Department with a suspicious house fire.
Firefighters reported to deputies that upon entering the home they located a pot on the stove that had been overheated and caused heavy smoke.
Once the smoke cleared, the firefighters discovered a deceased male inside the home.
Clements died from an apparent gunshot wound and early indication is that the pot was left on the stove intentionally to conceal the man’s death.
Hall said Thursday it appears Clements was a visitor to the home.
