A man wanted for the larceny of a wallet from a Walmart shopper was arrested Monday night in Gaston.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy R. Horton arrested Willie Cooper Jr., 35, around 11 p.m.

Cooper was wanted after he reportedly stole a woman’s wallet from her purse Saturday at Walmart.

According to the initial report, the larceny occurred around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim told Master Officer R. Cross she had her pocketbook in the cart and turned away to look at items. When she turned back around her wallet was missing from the pocketbook.

Cross worked with Walmart’s loss prevention staff to obtain video surveillance on the larceny and the suspect.

On Sunday the alleged suspect was identified as Cooper of Gaston.

Cross obtained warrants for larceny and possession of stolen goods.
