A speeding stop early Friday morning led to three arrests, a large cache of drugs seized as well as a stolen motorcycle.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Lieutenant S. Casey stopped a Tacoma pickup with Florida tags near the 159 mile marker around 2:30 a.m.

Speaking with the driver, who was identified as 44-year-old Jamal Kaemer Bowery, Casey detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

After citing the Conway, South Carolina, man for speeding, Casey and Corporal J. Barriger searched the truck.

They located 11 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, 2,140 grams of liquid THC and several THC-infused edibles. They also located 300 grams of marijuana.

In addition to the drugs, Casey and Barriger located three handguns in the truck’s passenger area and two small motorcycles in the truck’s bed.

One of the cycles was stolen from the New York City area in 2018 and the serial number on the other bike had been removed.

The following charges were lodged:

Chantel Janice Vereen, 35 of Uniondale, New York, faces charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

Brandon Kurt Jackson, 39, of Gresham, South Carolina, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, maintaining a place for storing controlled substances, felony possession of schedule VI, and possession with intent to sell and deliver synthetic cannabinoid. He received a $15,000 bond.

Bowery was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, maintaining a place for storing controlled substances, felony possession of schedule VI, possession with intent to sell and deliver synthetic cannabinoid, and felony possession of stolen goods. He received a $20,000 bond.

The three have September 22 court dates.
