A 5-year-old child is in stable condition and has been airlifted to Greenville after he was shot this afternoon in a business parking lot off Premier Boulevard.
Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said detectives are currently investigating the shooting, which occurred around 3 p.m. in the parking lot of T-Mobile.
Martin said the child was shot in the left arm.
Witnesses saw bloody clothes in the parking lot.
Investigators learned that the child was taken to the hospital by his mother and her male acquaintance.
Martin said the two adults are currently in custody and charges are pending.
Martin declined to say whether detectives believe the shooting was intentional or a mishap.
