Roanoke Rapids police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old child who was discovered at a residence in the 100 block of Franklin Street this morning.

Chief Bobby Martin said the infant was found wrapped in a blanket and placed in a suitcase which was discovered inside a closet.

The child’s mother – 34-year-old Synkel Davis – has been charged with felonious concealment of death. She received a $15,000 bond and Friday district court date.

Martin said it has yet to be determined how long the infant had been deceased. Police are waiting on an autopsy and medical examiner’s report.

Around 11:30 this morning Martin said officers received information regarding the wellbeing of a small child.

After a search of the residence, the officers located the child.

Martin said the cause of death remains unknown.
