A man wanted in the shooting death of a teen who was reported missing Tuesday surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office this evening.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said Monquette Douglas will have a first district court appearance on Monday.

He was jailed without the opportunity for bond.

Martin said earlier this evening 17-year-old Quameisha Dashay Branch was found around 3 p.m. today in a field in the Garysburg area of Northampton County.

Initial investigation shows that Branch died of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Douglas of Garysburg is the reputed boyfriend of Branch’s mother.

Branch was last seen in the downtown area of Roanoke Rapids Tuesday around 8:30 p.m.
