A Roanoke Rapids man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting in Gaston Friday night.

Captain Patrick Jacobs of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement 53-year-old Dexter Robinson was fatally struck following a shooting which occurred at Gaston Community Center where a birthday party was held.

Jacobs said the shooting began after several fights began inside and outside the building, which is located at 221 Craig Street.

In a statement released Saturday night Jacobs said at approximately 11:36 p.m., deputies and Gaston police officers responded to the building on a shots fired and disturbance call.

Officers on scene cleared the large crowd of out the building when gunshots erupted throughout the crowd of people.

Four male victims sustained gunshot wounds with Robinson being fatally struck.
