The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is attempting to identify the owner — or owners — of handguns that were found during two different traffic stops in Halifax County. 

A member of Troop C District 8 was assisting a stranded motorist when he discovered the vehicle was stolen. 

Two individuals fled the scene and left a back-seat passenger. After a search of the vehicle, two handguns were located in the back seat. 

A check of the serial numbers was conducted but the guns had not been reported stolen to a law enforcement agency.    

The trooper seized a Glock 19 Gen 4 9mm handgun and a Springfield XD-40.

A member of Troop C District 8 was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Halifax County. 

A search of the area was conducted, and a weapon was discovered. A check of the serial numbers was conducted but the gun had not been reported stolen.

The Trooper seized a Taurus 9mm handgun.

Sergeant L. Bynum said those who believe the weapons might be theirs should contact the highway patrol at 252-200-3490 and bring paperwork to prove rightful ownership of the weapon

The weapons will be disposed of 60 days after the notice is issued.
