Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Trustees celebrated board Chair Mike Williams at Monday night’s meeting.

Williams was recently honored with the Raleigh Dingman Award at the North Carolina State Board of Education Conference.

He was nominated for this award by fellow RRGSD Trustee Michael Salanik.

The Raleigh Dingman Award is the highest honor bestowed on a North Carolina school board member each year and is named in honor of Raleigh Dingman, NCSBA’s first full-time executive secretary.

Since 2003, recipients of this honor have been appointed as an ex-officio advisory position to the North Carolina State Board of Education.

The winner serves as an advisor to the NCSBA Board of Directors and attends the meetings of both organizations.

The meeting was paused briefly for a small reception to celebrate Williams.

His wife Sandra, son Chris, daughter-in-law Shelley, and grandsons Connor and Sawyer were also in attendance. “Dr. Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school board. This award is a well-deserved honor and we are excited to celebrate him tonight”, stated Superintendent Julie Thompson.
