Chuck Hasty released the following statement on his intention to run for the District 2 Halifax County Board of Commissioners seat currently held by John Smith.

After much prayer, discussion with my wife, family and friends, I am running for Halifax County Board of Commissioners District 2 seat.

I began my career in law enforcement in 1991 and have served in various capacities during my career — starting at Odom Correctional Institution, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax Regional Medical Center as the chief of security, the Northampton County School System as a school resource officer, Northampton County Sheriff’s Office as captain of investigations, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department as the police chief and the Enfield Police Department were I retired as the police chief.

I received an associate degree from Halifax Community College in Criminal Justice Technology and a bachelor of science in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University.

I am going to focus on economic development for all of Halifax County, by working with the municipalities on economic development. Each area of the county has their own unique qualities, we need to focus on and develop these qualities.

I will focus on ways we can improve the services that the county provides, while keeping low taxes.

Other initiatives

Keeping the great local businesses/industries here and creating opportunities for new innovative sustainable business and industry to come to Halifax County.

Keeping and retaining qualified and hardworking county employees.

Keeping Halifax County safe will also be a top priority.

Making Halifax County a safe place to live, to raise children and a place to visit to enjoy all the things Halifax County has to offer.

Boards

I currently serve on the board for Hear Our Voices — child abuse prevention/child advocacy — and the Halifax County Board of Adjustments.

I have served on the Halifax County 911 Board and Halifax County Crime Stoppers Board.

Personal and family

I am a member of Victory Baptist Church.

I have three children Trey, Macie, and Karson and I have been married to my wife Tonya for 15 years.
