State Representative Michael Wray recently presented Halifax County Schools with a ceremonial check totaling $1.684 million.

The contribution is earmarked to support student success initiatives within Halifax County Schools and the funds will be strategically allocated to enhance educational programs, improve infrastructure, and provide additional resources to support students' academic journey throughout the district.

"We deeply appreciate Representative Wray's unwavering support for education in Halifax County,” Superintendent Eric Cunningham said. “This generous contribution will profoundly impact our students, allowing us to further invest in their success and create an even more enriching learning environment."

David Harvey, president of the Halifax County Branch of the NAACP, said, "I've watched the Halifax County School system struggle for years trying to meet their obligations not because they didn't want to but because they never had the funding needed. So it was great being present and seeing Representative Wray deliver $1.6 million to the district. Seeing Dr. Cunningham, the school board, and the entire system flourish has been even more rewarding since they started receiving the supplemental tax a few years ago.”

Harvey said, “I'm proud of what they are doing with our children and want to thank Dr. Cunningham and the board for reaching out to Representative Wray and for him working hard and delivering those funds."
