A speeding violation stop in the Enfield area Tuesday as the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force was conducting saturated patrols resulted in the seizure of a stolen firearm and 71 grams of marijuana.

Captain Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the patrols were in response to gun and drug crimes in the town.

He said the stop that resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old Okaveon Kesayoi Cooper occurred around 5 p.m. when agents observed the driver of a vehicle speeding on South McDaniel Street.

Agents developed probable cause to search Cooper and his vehicle. As a result of the search, Cooper was found in possession of a firearm that had been reported stolen to the Enfield Police Department. Agents also found Cooper in possession of approximately 71 grams of marijuana and a digital scale.

Cooper was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, and speeding.

He posted a $3,000 bond and has a February 22 district court date.
