The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Sunday around 10 p.m. Lieutenant M. Hunsucker observed a vehicle that was traveling on the roadway in front of him that was not insured.

Hunsucker conducted a vehicle stop and identified the driver as Jarvonte Leron Green, 21, of Garysburg, who was operating the motor vehicle on a revoked driver’s license.

Hunsucker talked to Green about the overwhelming odor of marijuana inside of the vehicle.

As Sergeant J. Spragins and Officer L. Balmer arrived to assist, Green was removed from the vehicle and told the officers about a handgun in the driver’s door.

Officers conducted a pat down of Green, who turned over a clear bag of marijuana in his coat pocket.

A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of three vacuum-sealed bags weighing 1.3 and 1.4 pounds.

Officers also located an additional amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.

The total amount of marijuana seized was 4.7 pounds.

Green was subsequently arrested and charged with:

Possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana

Felony possession of marijuana

Maintaining a vehicle for sell/deliver of a controlled substance

Green received a $10,000 bond and a March 28 district court date.

As of this morning he was not in custody at the Halifax County Detention Center.
