Roanoke Rapids High School student Prajwala Peddireddy was the recipient Friday night of a Brightspeed Bright Futures Scholarship.

The program is a partnership between Brightspeed and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

The two held scholarship tours to present high school seniors with $1,000 to support their educational endeavors.

“This program recognizes promising high school seniors in rural North Carolina communities who have demonstrated a strong academic presence, leadership and commitment to their community,” Brightspeed said.

The cost of attending a four-year public college has grown by 48 percent over the last decade and student loan debt has increased by 66 percent, according to the Education Data Initiative. “The Brightspeed Bright Futures Scholarship aims to support students in our communities — creating a path to success and a brighter future for each of the students honored,” the company said.

Peddireddy was awarded the scholarship during the RRHS-Rocky Mount homecoming game.
