Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office — Cocaine trafficking
This morning around 10 Deputy J. Velez and Corporal K. Taylor conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 95 near mile marker 157 southbound for an unsafe movement violation.
The occupants were identified as Kenny Josue Garcia, 30, of Wesley Chapel, Florida and Jean Paul Lopez, 27, of Zephyrhills, Florida.
Major Anzell M. Harris said the men gave inconsistent statements and the odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. During a probable cause search a bag containing 994 grams of cocaine was found.

Once the narcotics were found one of the occupants attempted to flee but was captured by Velez a short distance later.
Both occupants were arrested and charged.
Garcia was charged with trafficking by possession, trafficking by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, conspiracy to traffic cocaine, maintain a vehicle for a controlled substance, no operator’s license, unsafe movement violation and fail to maintain lane control.
Lopez was charged with trafficking by possession, trafficking by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, conspire to sell and deliver cocaine, conspire to traffic cocaine, maintain a vehicle for a controlled substance and resist/delay/obstruct a public officer
Garcia and Lopez received November district court dates and $150,000 secured bonds. They remain in the Halifax County Detention Center.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office — Assault
On Saturday around 6 p.m. Deputy J. Morales responded to an assault call in the 35000 block of Highway 903.
Harris said the deputy learned Robert Alvin Garrett, 31, of Scotland Neck came to the residence, entered without permission and assaulted the victim with whom he was familiar.

Garrett was arrested and charged with assault on a female and breaking and entering to terrorize/injure.
He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a November 21 district court date.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department
Chief Shane Guyant reported that on Thursday around 9:30 p.m. a man identified later as Tyrone Antonio Burgess, 37, of Roanoke Rapids was pointing a weapon outside a business near Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Tenth Street.
Sergeant A. Seward and Officer C. Walker witnessed Burgess fire shots. There were no injuries or damages.

Burgess fled on a scooter and after a brief pursuit abandoned the vehicle and ran. He was caught and taken into custody with assistance from officers I. Nielsen and B. Johnson.
The firearm used was recovered.
Burgess was charged with assault by pointing a gun, discharging a firearm in the city limits, and resisting arrest. He was jailed without the opportunity for bond due to a breaking and entering to terrorize count last March.
He has a December 13 district court date.
It is unknown why Burgess was shooting in the parking lot. Guyant said he was not cooperative during the investigation and no excuse or reason was provided.
