Paul Brian Smith, 47, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020.

Paul was born in Halifax County to the late Dr. James Ronald “J.R.” Smith and Judy Smith Wilson (Keith) of Roanoke Rapids, who survives him.

He was a graduate of Halifax Academy, Class of 1991 and obtained an Associate in Science in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology from Wake Technical Community College.

Most people knew Paul as a heavy equipment technician, where he could fix anything that he touched. 

His family and friends knew him as a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anyone. He had a heart of gold with a personality full of wit and humor.  

Paul was known for impersonations, comical songwriting, “dad” jokes, and storytelling. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, being outdoors, kayaking, and playing music.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, J.R. Smith; brother, Jeff Smith; maternal grandparents, Tommy and Mary West; and paternal grandparents, Faye and Gladys Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Crystal; daughter, Kaylan Smith (Nate Thompson); son, Jarrett Smith (Kaylin Pulley); granddaughter, Scarlett Thompson; mother, Judy (Keith) Wilson of Roanoke Rapids; mother and father in law; Mary and Eugene Grizzard, nephews, Justis and Wesley Smith of Midlothian, VA; aunts, Carolyn (Steve) Hamill of Littleton and Gloria (Jr) Merritt of Roanoke Rapids; Uncles, Ronny (Lynne) West of Littleton, Gerald (Jane) Smith of Lexington, SC; and many cousins.

The family will receive friends at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral Home Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 2:00-3:00 pm and the Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 pm.
