Virginia “Shirley” Harris Ellis, 85, died Tuesday, June 07, 2022, in ECU North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
Ms. Ellis was born in Northampton County, NC, May 23, 1937, daughter to the late George W. and Virginia Williams Harris.
She was also a long-time member of the Roanoke Rapids First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Waverly G. Ellis; brothers, Randolph, M. Frank, and Lewis Harris, and sisters, Pauline Landry, Louise Moseley, Alice Ryce and Betty Clifton.
Surviving is her son, George M. Rook of Wilson and step-son, Ricky W. Ellis of Greenville, NC.; daughters, Deborah Mason of Raleigh, NC, Kay Rook of Rocky Mount, NC, Libby Murphy and Patricia Stephenson, both of Murfreesboro, NC, and her step daughter, Kathy Massengale of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Wanda Traylor, of Littleton, NC. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Pastor Matthew Smith will conduct a graveside service in Cedarwood Cemetery Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11 am. The family will receive friends at Wrenn Funeral Home Friday, June 10, 2022 from 6:00-7:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made in honor of Ms. Ellis to Roanoke Rapids Pentecostal Holiness Church, 145 Old Farm Rd., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
