John Thomas Acree Sr., 83 of Gaston, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 in ECU North Hospital.

Mr. Acree was born on June 9, 1939 in Mecklenburg County, VA; the son of the late Elizabeth Emery and John Samuel Acree.  He was also preceded in death by his step daughter Lisa Davis and his sister Darnell Turner.  

Mr. Acree was retired as the Police Chief, Fire Chief, served in Rescue Squad, and Mayor for the town of Gaston NC.

Surviving include his wife Linda Garner Acree, his two sons: John T. Acree, Jr. (Beverly) of Jackson and Danny Lee Acree (Angie) of Roanoke Rapids; his step sons Raymond Davis of Dinwiddie, VA; his step daughter Barbara Davis of Chester, VA; four grandchildren:  Christina Bundy, Catherine Leigh Bore, Daniel Acree, and Jordan Davis; and one great grandchild.  

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 6, 2023 in Wrenn Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Bass officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30 PM.
