Editor’s note: Jim Whitmire, a challenger, won a seat on the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Trustees Tuesday.
I thank everyone for the overwhelming support in this election.
I am humbled and honored for this opportunity.
There was a lot of work done by a very special group of individuals. I thank you all.
And, most especially, the voters. I will never lose sight of why you put your trust in me as a board member.
Our education system is at a crossroads and the challenges are many.
I am committed to doing all possible to ensure a return to academic excellence for this school district — improving and updating our infrastructure and leading by example with integrity, accountability and transparency.
My plan is to be visible, accessible and open minded.
My overall goal is to create an environment of mutual respect and integrity with our teachers and staff.
Positive, openly supportive and transparency will pay huge dividends to the environment our educators/staff need and deserve.
Lastly, for now, I will do all I can to ensure public awareness of any plans, initiatives or changes that directly impact the lives of our communities.
I don’t assume that I am aware of everything that is to come, but I am committed to tackling the issues and acting in the best interest of our kids and teachers.
Thank you and GO JACKETS!
Jim Whitmire
