A woman died and a man is in serious condition following a crash this afternoon.

Trooper R.P. Dennis of the state Highway Patrol declined to immediately release the names of both people involved in the crash until notification of their families.

The Highway Patrol received the call just before 4:30 p.m. and was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 903 and Aurelian Springs Road near Reser's Fine Foods.

Investigation showed a black, 2010 Infiniti was traveling south on Aurelian Springs Road and its driver ran the stop sign, colliding with a white Chevrolet Cobalt traveling east on Highway 903.

The Cobalt overturned and struck a stop sign while the Infiniti came to rest in a ditch.

Dennis said the driver of the Cobalt was killed on impact and was trapped inside the vehicle. He estimated the Infiniti was traveling 70 miles per hour when it ran the stop sign.

Dennis said the driver of the Infiniti is in serious condition. Charges are pending, he said.
