This year's Harvest Days has been cancelled, the Halifax County manager's reported today.

“After meeting this morning to discuss Harvest Days and the unfavorable weather conditions forecasted, the decision was made to cancel Harvest Days,” Deputy County Manager Dia Denton said in an email and statement.

Harvest Days was scheduled to begin Friday with a day for school children and continue Saturday.

Denton said planning for the 2016 Harvest Days will begin the near future.

Meanwhile, The Weather Channel reported this afternoon residents along the East Coast should pay close attention to the forecast now through this weekend as Hurricane Joaquin became the 2015 Atlantic season's third hurricane this morning.

The weather-reporting television station reported Joaquin is a particularly complex storm as computer forecast models are grappling with a complex interaction between Joaquin, a cold front near the East Coast, the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida, a strong bubble of high pressure aloft over the North Atlantic Ocean, and a potentially strong area of low pressure aloft digging into the Southeastern United States later this week.
