A woman wounded in a shooting tied to domestic violence last week is “doing much better,” Halifax County Wes Tripp said today.

There were no domestic violence protective orders filed at the Halifax County Clerk of Courts Office, according to an inquiry made last week.

“It's not unusual to not pursue those those avenues in the court system,” Tripp said today. “It doesn't mean there was no domestic violence. We have no knowledge of a history other than what happened that night.”

The victim's boyfriend, Jimmy Harrison Jr., died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Tripp said. “There was no other evidence to suggest his death was foul play. The evidence shows he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

The shooting, which occurred in the early morning hours of September 22, also resulted in a hand injury to an 8-year-old boy while two other children escaped from the residence on Mills Road in Hollister unharmed.
