A tip on a vehicle stolen from Maryland led to its recovery as well as drug charges lodged by the City County Drug Task Force Wednesday.

Agent D.R. Radford of the task force said Sergeant D. Bozard of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office received a tip shortly after 2:30 p.m. from the Family Drive community in the Halifax area off Highway 903.

Bozard located the vehicle and through the course of the investigation detected the odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

Radford applied for, and was granted, a search warrant for the residence. During the search, cocaine, marijuana, a stolen handgun, and several items of drug paraphernalia were seized.

Radford arrested Kevin M. Seabron, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, and his cousin, Artez S. Powell, 20, of Washington, D.C., for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Seabron received a $5,000 secured bond and Powell received a $10,000 secured bond.

Both have November 25 court dates.

Radford also arrested and charged Brent L. Alston, 40, of Halifax, for felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Alston was released on $10,000 bond and was also given a November 25 court date.

Sheriff's office investigators were contacted due to the possibility of other stolen property at the residence and Radford will continue to investigate the stolen handgun. Further charges are pending.

Radford said in a statement the task force encourages anyone with information to report drug complaints to Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 or log onto www.halifaxsheriff.com to report a tip.
