RRPD blotter: October 26 and October 28, 2015

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Monday October 26, 2015

At approximately 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Charlotte and Williams streets on a suspicious person call.

Arriving were Sergeant Terrence Tyler and Master Officer Mark Peck of the police department and Detective B.C. Griffin of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

After initially fleeing through yards and alleys, officers took Erick Lamonz Hilton, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, into custody in the 200 block of Hamilton Street.

Hilton had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation and Tyler charged him with resist, delay and obstruct and injury to property for damaging a fence.

He received a $2,000 bond.

Officers Jason Williams and Chris Biggerstaff assisted.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Peck charged Marieka Mar’shay Copeland, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, with hit and run property damage.

The charges stem from a motor vehicle collision on October 14 on Jackson Street where she reportedly struck another vehicle and left the scene.

Copeland was released until her court date on November 9.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Lieutenant Jeff Baggett conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of Julian Allsbrook R. Highway for a violation.

The driver, Alton Ray Yellorday Jr., 23, of Garysburg, was driving on a revoked license.

During a search of the vehicle marijuana and paraphernalia was located inside.

Baggett cited Yellorday with driving while license revoked, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released until his December 14 court date.

Thursday October 29, 2015

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Master Officer Gerald Morris conducted a traffic stop on Highway 125 for suspicious activity.

During the stop Morris conducted a search of the vehicle and located marijuana.

He cited Anna Margret Maynard, 25, of Raleigh, with possession of marijuana.

She was released until her court date on January 15.

At approximately 7 a.m., Tyler and Jason Williams responded to a larceny call at Murphy.

The victim was purchasing items at the window when the person later arrested went inside the vehicle and took items.

Jason Williams got a description from the station’s surveillance video system and spotted the person going into a business on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Jason Williams arrested and charged Jonathan James Brown, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, with breaking, entering and larceny from a vehicle and possessing stolen goods. He was also served an outstanding warrant for resist, delay and obstruct.

He received a $10,000 bond and November 13 court date.

Peck assisted.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Officer Matt Hunsucker responded to the 200 block of Washington Street on a suspicious person call.

Hunsucker located Ricky Colton Jones, 16, of Roanoke Rapids, lying on the ground beside a vacant house.

Hunsucker found Jones in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Hunsucker cited Jones for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released until his December 14 court date.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Morris responded to a motor vehicle collision on Old Farm Road.

During the investigation Morris determined Shadiya Nasiyma Collins, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, was impaired and arrested and charged her with driving while impaired and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Collins received a $500 bond and a December 14 court date.

Officer Patrick Smith assisted.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported two people took items from the store without paying and were seen walking towards lawn and garden.

Morris located Edward Lewis Crowell, 54, of Pleasant Hill, and Smith arrested and charged him with larceny, possession of stolen goods and trespassing.

Crowell received a $1,500 bond and November 13 court date.

The other person was described as a black female

At approximately 11 p.m., Morris responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported two people took items from the store without paying and were walking towards Fourth Avenue.

Morris located Derek Davon Roberts, 26, of Gaston, and Daniel Travez Vowels, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.

Morris arrested both men.

He charged Roberts with conspiracy to commit larceny, possession of stolen goods, intoxicated and disruptive behavior and resist, delay and obstruct for attempting to get out of the vehicle on the way to the magistrate's office in Halifax.

Vowels was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Roberts received a $2,000 bond and Vowels a $500 bond. They each have November 13 court dates.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette and Smith assisted.
