Two men were arrested and nearly 52 grams of marijuana was seized late Saturday night as Halifax County Sheriff's Office deputies were responding to a shots fired call on Silvertown Road in the Enfield area.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said completion of that part of the investigation yielded no arrests and Captain Anzell Harris of the City County Drug Task Force said deputies spoke with residents in the area but weren't able to locate a shooting scene.

In a statement released early this morning, Harris said Corporal P. Moyer, a certified dog handler within the sheriff's office, was responding to the shooting call when he noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, which failed to heed a stop sign at the Silvertown Road and Highway 48 intersection.

Moyer stopped the vehicle on Ringwood Road near Highway 48 and could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. Sergeant D. Coley and Deputy B. Nutt assisted.

During a search of the vehicle, Harris said Moyer located approximately 51.9 grams of marijuana and several items of marijuana paraphernalia which included several packs of Cigarillos, Mason jars, a digital scale, a plastic container and currency.

Moyer arrested and charged Rodney Riggsbee, 41, of Henderson, and Swante Wiggins, 37, of Scotland Neck.

Riggsbee was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possess marijuana paraphernalia, maintain a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance, driving while license revoked, and failure to stop for a stop sign.

Wiggins was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possess marijuana paraphernalia, maintain a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance, and open container.

The men received $5,000 secured bonds and December 16 court dates.
