Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said the armed robbery occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at the drug store on Tenth Street.

The person of interest, a white male, went to the pharmacy brandishing a handgun and demanded narcotics. The pharmacist complied and the man left with an undisclosed amount of medication in a dark colored van headed east on Highway 158.
At the scene, officers and investigators were seen interviewing witnesses and taking license numbers of vehicles in the parking lot.
