More charges have been filed in an October case in which investigation began with a tip on a vehicle stolen from Maryland.

Halifax County Sheriff's Office Detective Obert Wiltsie obtained warrants for the arrest Brent L. Alston, 40, of Halifax, for two counts of possession of stolen goods on November 2.

Agent D.R. Radford of City County Drug Task Force obtained warrants on Alston for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm on November 16.

Today, Radford said in a statement, task force agents D.J. Hundley and C.L. Dixon arrested Alston at his residence on Family Drive. He received a $5,000 secured bond and January 27 court date.

In the original case a tip on a vehicle stolen from Maryland led to its recovery as well as drug charges lodged by the task force.

Sergeant D. Bozard of the sheriff's office received a tip from the Family Drive community in the Halifax area off Highway 903 about the vehicle.

Bozard located the vehicle and through the course of the investigation detected the odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

Radford applied for, and was granted, a search warrant for the residence. During the search, cocaine, marijuana, a stolen handgun, and several items of drug paraphernalia were seized.

Radford arrested Kevin M. Seabron, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, and his cousin, Artez S. Powell, 20, of Washington, D.C., for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Radford also arrested Alston for felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
