Investigation, according to Detective Willie Murphy Jr. of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, began when the matter was reported on November 25.

Investigation led Murphy to discover evidence the offenses allegedly occurred on and off for five years.

Murphy, declining to elaborate, said the victims mutually decided to report the matter.

The investigation led to the arrest of Micheal Jermaine Crawford, 39, Murphy charging him with indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sexual battery.

Murphy said additional charges may be lodged in the case.

Crawford in the past has acted as a minister but has no formal training, education or church. There is allegedly evidence, Murphy said, Crawford used that capacity to take advantage of one of the victims.

Crawford was arrested at his home without trouble and received a $2,000 bond and January 27 court date.
