He said numerous burglary tools were found afterward.
Deputies responded around 5 a.m. after receiving an alarm activation call. They found the door pried open and eventually found nothing was taken.
Griffin said in a statement numerous residents called the sheriff's office, reporting two suspicious men.
The state Highway Patrol, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission enforcement and Nash County Sheriff's Office assisted in confining one of the men in the woods.
Halifax County Corporal P. Moyer and his dog Bosco flushed Jeremy Noel Little, 23, of Carrboro, out of the woods and into custody.
Further investigation determined a second person, Joshua Lamar Cutler, 22, of Durham, was also reportedly involved.
Cutler was arrested by the Durham Police Department Saturday. Processed in Durham, he received a $5,000 bond. Little, who was processed in Halifax County, received a $20,000 bond. Both men have January 20 court dates. They face charges of breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools.
Griffin said neither men have ties to the Hollister community and investigation into whether they may have committed other crimes outside the area continues.
Griffin praised the cooperative effort between citizens and law enforcement to apprehend Little. “It was great,” he said. “It took everything.”
