HCSO roundup: January 2-3, 2016

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office reported the following:

January 4, 2016

Charles Brown, 27, of Littleton, was arrested for larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a trailer, and possession of stolen goods, according to Detective D.C. Dickens.

A Ford F-150 and a utility trailer was stolen from the Highway 903 area of Roanoke Rapids in early December.

Leads were developed after a report was filed by Sergeant D. Coley.

Dickens located the stolen trailer in the Hollister area and the truck was located in the Roanoke Rapids area by Detective Obert Wiltsie.

The property was returned to the victim.

Brown received a January 20 court date and $2,500 secured bond.

January 3, 2016

According to Major Scott Hall, around 2 a.m., Deputy Justin Matthews attempted to stop a 2004 Cadillac DeVille on Highway 903 near Highway 48 for a lane violation.

The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated as it continued to travel down Sam Powell Dairy and later onto Zoo Road.

The pursuit traveled into Roanoke Rapids down Bolling Road where the vehicle later collided with a power box and the driver and passenger fled on foot.

The driver, Tavio Lamont Taylor, 31, of Garysburg, kicked in the back door of an apartment off Fourth Street and hid in the attic.

The passenger, Keyon West, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested with the help of Roanoke Rapids officers after he ran toward the Store Next Door.

West was charged with resisting a public officer and received a $500 secured bond.

Taylor was charged with flee to elude arrest, driving left of center, injury to property, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting a public officer.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department filed charges on Taylor for the breaking and entering of the residence.

He was placed in the Halifax county jail with a $30,000 bond.

Both men have January 20 court dates pending.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol also assisted in the arrest.

Hall reported around 4 a.m., Deputy Brittany Warren responded to a Stonewall Drive address in Roanoke Rapids on a larceny call.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Jamie Richardson, 38, of Roanoke Rapids.

Richardson was charged with felony larceny and possession of stolen goods which were identified as a 50-inch Samsung flat screen television, two Huffy bicycles, one XBOX connect gaming console and four XBOX connect games.

Richardson received a $5,000 secured bond with a pending court date of February 17.

January 2, 2016

Hall reported Corporal John Bozard conducted a traffic stop on Taylor Street in Enfield for stop sign violation.

Further investigation revealed Javonte Love, 24, of Enfield, had an outstanding warrant for simple assault.

During the stop, deputies located a .40-caliber Hi-Point handgun previously reported stolen.

Love was arrested and charged with simple assault from the arrest warrant, driving while impaired, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of firearm by a felon.

Love was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond and awaits a January 20 court.

Corporal Jason Keeter and Major Neil Aycock assisted in the arrest.
