RRPD blotter: December 28, 2015-January 2, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty and Captain Andy Bryant:

Monday, December 28, 2015

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Officer Greg Colson responded to a noise complaint at Motel 6.

During his investigation Colson smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the room.

Clarence May Cheatham Jr. of Raleigh was cited for possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cheatham was released until his February 26 court date.

Master Officer Roy Ball assisted.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Officer Ryan Cross responded to a larceny call at Best Western.

Staff reported someone stole a tip jar from the business and gave a description and direction of travel.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and state Highway Patrol located Dangelo Montia Alston, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, a short distance away.

Cross arrested and charged Alston with larceny.

Alston received a $1,000 bond and January 15 court date.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette assisted.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Officer Ariel Burgess responded to a larceny call at Lowe's Home Improvement.

Loss prevention reported Robert Sean Davis, 22, took items.

Burgess arrested and charged Davis with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Davis received a $6,000 bond and a January 15 court date.

Master Officer Gerald Morris assisted.

Wednesday December 30, 2015

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Sergeant Mike Moseley conducted a traffic stop for a violation at Roanoke Avenue and Tenth Street.

Moseley spoke with the driver, Townada Latresse Price, 41, of Roanoke Rapids, and determined she was impaired.

Price, who was released to a responsible person pending her February 8 court date, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and stop light violation.

At approximately 4 a.m., Officer Alex Green responded to a call about a person causing a disturbance at New Dixie Mart on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

The department received complaints and warned Herman Blount, 54, of Gaston, approximately 30 minutes earlier about trespassing and using profane language in public.

Green located Blount and arrested and charged him with disorderly conduct.

Blount received a $750 bond and January 27 court date.

Officers Adam Salmon and Jeffery Mason assisted.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., Officer Patrick Smith arrested and charged Belinda Beth Walker, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, with three counts of obtaining property by false pretense and three counts of forgery and uttering.

These charges stem from a report taken by Smith on December 28.

The victim reported someone wrote checks on his account without permission.

Walker received a $2,500 bond and January 6 court date.

At approximately 3 p.m., Lieutenant C.L. Vaught arrested and charged John Thaddeus O’Briant Jr., 49, of Roanoke Rapids, with obtaining property by false pretense.

These charges stem from a report taken by Vaught on December 21.

The victim reported O’Briant allegedly agreed to sell a vehicle. The victim paid a deposit to have the vehicle delivered by a certain date, but it was never delivered.

O’Briant received a $5,000 bond and January 13 court date.

Thursday December 31, 2015

At approximately 12:40 p.m., Officer Joey Spragins responded to a larceny call at Just Save.

Loss prevention reported a person, later identified as Kira Nicole Edmonds, 40, of Roanoke Rapids, left on a vehicle.

Spragins located and stopped the vehicle. He charged Edmonds with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Edmonds received a $500 bond and January 15 court date.

Burnette assisted.

At approximately 2 p.m., Cross responded to a larceny call at Food Lion on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Staff reported a person, later identified as Dustin Travis Nowell, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, was leaving on a bike.

As other officers were arriving to help locate Nowell, they noticed the bike in front of another business. When officers went inside the business the Nowell ran out the back door, but was caught after a brief chase.

Nowell was arrested and charged with habitual larceny, three counts of resist/delay/obstruct an officer and damage to property.

He received a $5,000 bond and a January 22 court date.

Vaught, Sergeant Richie White, Investigator Chris Babb and Officer Ariel Burgess assisted.

At approximately 5 p.m., Spragins was on routine patrol when he heard a vehicle spinning tires at the Lake Park parking lot.

When Spragins and Smith went to investigate, the driver, John Taylor Pierce, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, jumped out of the vehicle and jumped over a fence but officers stopped him.

During a search of the area where Pierce went, officers found a baggie of marijuana. During a search of the passenger, Christopher Scott Delbridge, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, officers found drug paraphernalia in his possession and paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Delbridge was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released until his January 15 court date. Pierce was arrested and charged with possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a $1,000 bond and January 15 court date.

Friday January 1, 2016

At approximately 1:24 a.m., Lieutenant Jeff Baggett responded to a loud music call in the 1000 block of Franklin Street as well as a drug activity complaint in the same area.

Baggett located Jamill Markel Simmons, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, in the backyard of 1020 Franklin Street.

During an investigation of the drug activity complaint, Simmons attempted to flee the area. He was quickly apprehended by Baggett.

Baggett and Moseley found Simmons in possession of marijuana as well as a handgun.

Simmons was charged with resist/delay/obstruct a public officer, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Simmons received a $1,500 bond and court date of January 22. At approximately 3:19 am., Green conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Highway 158 near the intersection of Old Farm Road.

Green learned the driver, Miguel Alexander Cordeo James, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, had an outstanding order for arrest from Northampton County.

During the arrest process, Officer Adam Salmon located a plastic bag containing marijuana.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted where paraphernalia was located.

James was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding OFA.

James received a $1,500 bond. His court date is January 22. At approximately 8:10 p.m., Officer Matt Hunsucker responded to an assault call in the 100 block of Monroe Street.

The victim was stabbed in the eye and transported by EMS to the hospital and later to another facility for treatment.

Rogelio Garcia Silverio, 35, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and two outstanding orders for arrest.

He received an $84,800 bond. His court date is January 20.

Investigator Jeff Davis, Master Officer Mark Peck, officers Chris Biggerstaff and Natara Velazquez assisted. At approximately 8:20 p.m., Sergeant Terrence Tyler responded to a disturbance call with shots fired in the 300 block of Madison Street.

He observed a large amount of people standing in the street.

Tyler arrested Megan Rae Faison, 27, of Seaboard, with disorderly conduct and resist/delay/obstruct. Faison received a $500 bond. Her court date is January 8.

Saturday January 2, 2016

At approximately 11:29 a.m., Ball responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Jason Lee Rowland, 34, and Jennifer Horne Rowland, 36, both of Halifax, took items from the store.

Ball issued a state citation to both for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Their court date will be January 29. At approximately 2:47 p.m., Ball responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Romone Smith, 45, of Scotland Neck, took an item.

Ball’s investigation revealed Smith’s criminal history allowed him to be charged with habitual larceny. Ball arrested and charged Smith with felony habitual larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, felony larceny by anti-inventory device and misdemeanor trespassing.

Smith received a $10,000 bond and January 29 court date.

Officers Jamie Hardy and Scott Blythe assisted. At approximately 8:50 p.m., Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported a person later identified as Tajiri Lee, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, concealed items and left the store.

He was last seen walking towards Logan's.

Officer Jason Williams located him at 1910 Julian R Allsbrook Highway.

Benthall arrested Lee for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Lee was released on $500 bond and received a January 28 court date.

Tyler and Peck assisted.
