RRPD blotter: January 11-14, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Captain Bobby Martin:

Monday January 11, 2016

At approximately 2:38 p.m. Sergeant D. Jenkins responded to a shoplifter call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported 23-year-old Jaquan Hawkins was seen taking a video game from the electronics section. Loss prevention stopped Hawkins and notified law enforcement.

Hawkins, an employee of the Walmart Burger King, was cited for theft and has a February 8 court date. The property was recovered.

Officers J. Spragins and C. Cross received information from Sergeant R. White on the whereabouts of James Crigler, who was wanted.

The officers checked the home and found Crigler in an upstairs bedroom attempting to hide behind a door.

Crigler was arrested and brought to the police department for processing.

Officers located a cigarette pack with a rolled up piece of lottery ticket and an off-white substance identified as heroin.

Crigler attempted to destroy the evidence by grabbing at it and trying to dump the powder.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged him with obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen property.

The police department charged him with resist, delay and obstruct, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule II and altering/destroying criminal evidence.

He was jailed on $47,000 bond with a January 25 court date.

Wednesday January 13, 2016

At approximately noon, Officer Roy Ball was on patrol in the area of Third and Franklin streets when he observed a traffic infraction.

As he approached to speak to the driver, he saw a passenger in the back try to push something into the crack of the seat.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the passenger dropped a marijuana blunt out of his hand.

The occupants told Ball other items were in the car.

Processing led to the discovery of a baggie of marijuana seeds, baggie of marijuana roaches, two smoking pipes and blunts.

Drew Barlowe, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia

She received a $1,000 bond.

Quantez Ward, 19, of Roanoke Rapids was charged with simple possession of marijuana and received a $500 bond.

Amber Munn, 20, of Jackson, was charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She received a $1,000 bond. All have February 26 court dates.

Lieutenant P. Parks and officers Greg Colson and Scott Blythe assisted.

Thursday January 14, 2016

Officer Jamie Hardy was on patrol in the area of Highway 158 and Carter Street when he noticed a registration violation.

Hardy could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and after speaking with the occupants found a plastic bag of marijuana seeds on the passenger side where Darrelle Dancy was seated.

During the processing a bag of marijuana was also found on Dancy, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, who was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $1,000 bond and February 8 court date.

Colson assisted.
