BOE seeks precinct workers; SCLC sets forums

The Halifax County Board of Elections is seeking to hire additional precinct officials who are willing to work during early voting and Election Day while the Roanoke Valley Southern Christian Leadership Conference is hosting a series of voter information forums.

Board of elections Director Kristin Scott said interested parties must attend mandatory training sessions prior to each election.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18-years-old and a registered voter of Halifax County.

Early voting starts on March 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; March 7 through 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Early voting will be held at all voting locations throughout the county.

The primary is set for March 15.

Voter information forums

Meanwhile, The Roanoke Valley SCLC is hosting four voter informational forums in Halifax County prior to early voting.

The kick-off forum will be on Tuesday at 6:30 pm at the New Hope Apostolic Church, 40 Luke Street, in Roanoke Rapids.

A community volunteer will lead the discussion on voter education and awareness.

The additional forums will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 10614 Hwy 158, Littleton

Thursday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Baptist Church, 421 South McDaniel Street, Enfield
Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 6417 Highway 561, Tillery
During these forums, there will be a voter education series provided by Scott and Deputy Director Spinosa Clements.

Topics covered will include voter registration, voter ID, provisional ballots, absentee ballots, electronic poll books, closing the polls, and the end of the night election audit.
