A Woodland man was charged Wednesday on Northampton and Halifax warrants, the Northampton County Sheriff's Office reports.

Captain M.D. DeLoatch Sr. said Eric Vaughan Jr., 21, was apprehended after a short foot chase on Highway 305 and Dusty Hill Road between Jackson and Rich Square.

He had been hiding in the woods for about an hour, Sheriff Jack Smith said in a statement.

DeLoatch said Vaughan was wanted for a residential break-in in Northampton in which a television and other items of value were stolen.

Vaughan, who had an initial court appearance today, was jailed on $80,500 secured bond.

He faces the following charges in Northampton: Felony probation violation, resisting a public officer, two counts of injury to personal property, one count of felony larceny after breaking and entering, one count of felony breaking and entering and one count of felony possession of stolen goods.

He was also served with warrants from Halifax County for first-degree burglary, felony larceny after breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to real property.

In the statement Smith thanked the Halifax County Sheriff's Office for use of its canine. “When he was approached he ran into the woods. After an hour he was located and taken into custody.”

Smith also thanked the Jackson and Seaboard police departments and the state Highway Patrol.
