Roanoke Rapids police have arrested another person in the January 2 Yesteryear shooting, bringing the total charged in the case to four.

Investigator J.K. Davis Tuesday charged Wayne Wilkins Jr., 35, of Roanoke Rapids, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

Wilkins received a $75,000 bond ahead of a February 17 court date, Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement.

Wilkins joins Darius Williams, Quayshawn Rogers and Kesherra Graham as those charged in the shooting at the now-closed lounge on Becker Drive.

The voluntary surrender of the establishment's alcohol licenses effectively shut the establishment down. “The nuisance was taken care of voluntarily,” Hasty said today.

While four have now been charged in the shooting, Hasty said there could be others charged.

“We're actively looking for another individual that we know was involved in the shooting,” Davis said this afternoon. “We're close to identifying who that person is.”

Davis said investigators still don't have an idea on what prompted the shooting. “There's conflicting stories on what led to the escalation of the shooting.”

The police department, Davis said, encourages anyone who was at the lounge the night of the shooting to contact law enforcement or do it anonymously through Crimestoppers by calling 252-583-4444.

Captain Bobby Martin assisted Davis with the arrest, Hasty said in the statement.
