RRPD blotter: January 29-February 5, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday January 29, 2016

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Master Officer Roy Ball responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Christopher Roemello Wood, 20, of Littleton, took items and left on a vehicle. Ball stopped the vehicle on Old Farm Road near Medical Center Drive.

Wood, who received a $1,000 bond and February 26 court date, was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Lieutenant Perry Parks, Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and Officer Jamie Hardy assisted.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., officers Jonathan Benthall and Chris Biggerstaff responded to an assault call on Clearfield Drive.

Benthall noticed injuries to the victim’s head and face.

Mike Edward Atkins, 38, of Freeman, Virginia, was arrested and charged for assault on a female. He was jailed without opportunity for bond and received a March 29 court date.

Saturday January 30, 2016

At approximately 8 p.m., Benthall responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Dillion Scott Ruble, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, took items and left on a vehicle.

Benthall cited Ruble, who was released until his March 4 court date, with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Sunday January 31, 2016

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Ball and Hardy responded to a call of suspicious activity on Apollo Circle.

When the officers arrived, Raheem Lamar Mallory, 19, of Roanoke Rapids, ran to another residence where he was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of schedule II and possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II.

He received a $50,000 bond and March 16 court date.

At approximately 4 p.m., Parks, Jenkins, officers Scott Blythe, Greg Colson and Deputy S. Bryant responded to a breaking and entering call in the 500 block of Harris Street.

Officers found Joshua Wayne Turner, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, inside the residence.

Investigation determined Turner entered the residence through a window and broke into some vehicles in the area as well.

Blythe arrested and charged Turner with breaking and entering, two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny and an outstanding order for arrest.

Turner received a $52,000 bond and March 16 court date.

“The officers were able to get Mr. Turner into custody because of an alert neighbor watching out for their neighborhood,” Hasty said.

Monday February 1, 2016

At approximately 1 p.m., Master Officer Adam Salmon and Officer Alex Green responded to a larceny call at Sheetz.

The victim told officers they posted a cell phone on a social media selling site and arranged a meeting at the store.

When a man later identified as Darius Dewayne Lewter, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, arrived to look it, the victim handed it to him and Lewter fled with the phone.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett and Sergeant Mike Moseley located Lewter on Third Avenue near Chockoyotte Park and took him into custody.

Lewter was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods and received a $1,000 bond and February 19 court date.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Moseley, Salmon and Green responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported to Halifax Central a man later identified as Crashawn Montay Vincent, 29, of Littleton, took items from the store and was seen running across the parking lot toward Arby's.

Officers located him running toward Interstate 95 and gave chase, taking him into custody.

Officers arrested and charged Vincent with larceny, possession of stolen goods and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

He received a $4,000 bond and February 19 court date.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Sergeant Terrence Tyler responded to an armed robbery call in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street.

The victim reported while riding a hover board they were approached by several people who demanded the board and then demanded it at gun point when the victim did not comply.

The suspects left with the board as the victim gave chase.

Officers spotted them near Roanoke Rapids High School. Officers set up a perimeter after they ran again and took Sejuan Dajour Pitt, 18, and Devin Rashod Johnson, 17, both into custody.

They were charged them with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and possessing stolen goods.

They received $5,000 bonds and February 17 court dates.

Lieutenant Bruce Norton, Master Officer Mark Peck, officers Biggerstaff, Jason Williams, Matt Hunsucker and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

Tuesday February 2, 2016

At approximately 11:45 a.m., Gaston Police Department Chief Randy Griffin arrested Jennifer Dawn Madison, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, on outstanding warrants for obtaining property by false pretense. These charges stem from a January 16 matter in which the victim reported to Lieutenant Charles Burnette Madison received money to receive medical treatment.

During the investigation it was determined Madison was not receiving any type of treatment requiring money.

She received a $7,500 bond and February 17 court date.

Baggett assisted.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Officer Dale Strickland responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported to Halifax Central a man later identified as Joseph Wilson Ragan Jr., 37, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store and left on a vehicle.

Baggett spotted the vehicle and stopped it at Old Farm Road and Boykins Street.

Strickland charged Ragan, who received an $800 bond and February 26 court date, with larceny, possession of stolen goods and driving while license revoked.

Wednesday February 3, 2016

At approximately 7 p.m., Jenkins responded to a robbery of a person call on Hill Street.

The victim reported giving a ride to a person later identified as Kendrell Robinson, 28, of Roanoke Rapids.

Robinson demanded the victim's wallet at Hill Street and fled on foot with the property.

The description of Robinson matched that of a person Moseley dealt with earlier.

Jenkins arrested and charged Robinson, who received a $7,500 bond and March 16 court date, with common law robbery.

Blythe assisted.

“Sergeant Moseley’s eye for details in the people he deals with on different calls helped to bring a successful outcome in this case,” Hasty said.

Thursday February 4, 2016

At approximately 11 a.m., Moseley responded to a larceny call at JustSave.

Store staff reported to Halifax Central a woman later identified as a Lauretta Ann Stinnette, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, took items and left on a vehicle.

Moseley spotted the vehicle as he was pulling into the parking lot and stopped it.

Moseley arrested and charged Stinnette, who was given a $500 bond and March 18 court date, with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Investigator Frankie Griffin assisted.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., Salmon and Green responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Lottie Miles Nelson, 47, and Marvin Douglas Nelson, 54, both of Roanoke Rapids took items.

Green cited Mrs. Nelson for larceny and possession of stolen goods and cited Mr. Nelson with larceny. Both were released until their February 19 court dates.

Friday February 5, 2016

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Ball responded to an open line 911 call in the 300 block of Monroe Street.

He could not get anyone to come to the front door and had to walk around to a window and knock on it to get someone.

While Ball spoke with the female resident, he had Kelvin Gabriel Broady, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, wait outside.

The victim alleged Broady hit her in the stomach.

Broady fled when Jenkins arrived as backup.

As officers set up a perimeter, Broady came back and was arrested at the residence.

Ball charged him with assault on a female, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was jailed without opportunity for bond and received a March 16 court date.

Parks, Blythe, Colson and Hardy assisted.
