Traffic stop nets crack cocaine charge

A passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation this afternoon was arrested for felony possession of cocaine.

Captain A.M. Harris of the City County Drug Task Force made the stop in the Highway 48 area near Sunnyvale shortly before 3:30 p.m.

In a statement Harris said he observed the passenger, identified as Gerald Wayne Tart, 46, of Roanoke Rapids, would not spread his fingers apart.

Harris located crack cocaine and an homemade crack pipe.

Tart was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and received a $1,000 bond pending an April 27 court date.

Harris also cited Jessica Lynn Byrd, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, for possession of drug paraphernalia. Byrd also has an April 27 court date.
