An Enfield man arrested Monday for the theft of a utility trailer was charged today with intimidation of a witness in the case.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Jerome Gary, 50, was charged with intimidation of a state's witness and obstruction of justice in the matter “after investigation revealed some type of threat was made in the case.”

Neither Hall or Detective B.C. Griffin, who investigated the case and filed the charges, would elaborate on the type of threat made.

In a statement, Hall did confirm the case was related to Gary's arrest Monday on charges of felony larceny and possession of stolen property in the trailer theft, which occurred in January.

Hall said in the statement after Gary made bond, he reportedly contacted and threatened a witness in the case.

Gary was jailed on $10,000 cash bond and awaits a March 30 court date.
