RRPD blotter: February 26-28, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday February 26, 2016

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Kansas Renee Newberry, 20, and George Michael Hardison, 25, both of Roanoke Rapids, and Melissa Lynn Hardison, 22, of Littleton, took items.

Hardy cited all three for larceny and possession of goods.

They were all released until their April 22 court dates.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., Hardy responded to a call of an unattended child behind Dairy Queen. Hardy located Chinta Marie Williams, 44, of Gaston, and Edward Lewis Crowell, 54, of Pleasant Hill, with two children inside a business.

During his investigation Hardy learned Williams and Crowell were drinking and used the children to steal items from a business.

Hardy arrested and charged them with habitual larceny, possessing stolen goods, possession of open contain and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Williams was also charged with resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer for attempting to flee.

Williams received an $8,000 bond and Crowell a $5,000 bond.

They both have April 20 court dates.

Saturday February 27, 2016

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Lieutenant Perry Parks located Dearrick Mullen, 42, of Roanoke Rapids, in the 500 block of Jefferson Street.

Mullen had several outstanding orders for arrest for probation violation and received a $4,000 bond and March 14 court date.

At approximately 7 p.m., Sergeant Terrence Tyler responded to a call about an armed person in the 800 block of Roanoke Avenue.

Tyler learned during an altercation between James Otis Havis, 41, and Justin Lee Means, 16, a gun was pulled and pointed. Tyler arrested and charged Havis with assault and Means with assault by pointing a gun.

Havis was released to a responsible person and Means received a $1,000 bond. Both have March 4 court dates.

Parks, Master Officer Mark Peck, officers Greg Colson, Blythe, Hardy, Matt Hunsucker, Chris Biggerstaff and Investigator Chris Babb assisted.

At approximately 10 p.m., Peck and Hunsucker responded to a vehicle collision in the 200 block of Franklin Street.

Officers found Esteban Manuel Manuel, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, inside the vehicle and determined he was impaired.

Officers attempted to arrest him for driving while impaired but he attempted to pull away.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged with DWI, possession of an open container, resist, delay and obstruct, and no operator’s license.

He received a $3,500 bond and April 8 court date.

Officers Jason Williams and Natara Velazquez assisted.

Sunday February 28, 2016

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Blythe responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Oak Street.

Blythe noticed injuries to both parties and arrested and charged Corey Lamar Bynum, 26, with assault on a female and LaKendra Watkins, 26, with assault. The pair, both of Roanoke Rapids, were jailed without opportunity for bond due to the domestic nature of the matter.

They have April 22 court dates.
