A Crimestoppers tip led to the capture of Jimmy Williams Jr. Saturday, according to Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty.

Williams, 18, of Gaston, was the last person wanted in a string of vehicle break-ins last summer with Hakeem Martin and a juvenile. He was also the last person wanted in a shooting in the 100 block of Madison Street on December 11.

Williams was apprehended Saturday in the shooting and was also served with warrants in the vehicle break-ins

The vehicle break-ins, which occurred on July 31 and August 1 of last year, were solved when officers discovered the teens in the act of breaking into the vehicles and gave chase.

Martin, 17, of Gaston, and the juvenile were caught while Williams escaped. Police confirmed the juvenile charged in the vehicle break-ins is the same juvenile charged in the December shooting.

Hasty said in a statement Williams, who had been on the lam, was captured Saturday shortly before 1 p.m.

He was arrested during a traffic stop near Fairfield Apartments off Highway 125 by Lieutenant Bruce Norton and Officer Chris Biggerstaff. A shotgun was recovered during the arrest, which was made without trouble.

Williams faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of conspiracy.

He also faces 14 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of larceny and two counts of possession of stolen goods.

He received a $752,500 bond and has a March 16 court date.

In the statement Hasty said, “The Crimestoppers tip helped the police department with locating Mr. Williams.

“The police department had been working with several state and federal law enforcement agencies to find Mr. Williams for several months.”

Hasty said the investigation is ongoing at this time and additional charges may be filed in this case.
