The Roanoke Rapids charges, Hasty said, stem from an investigation by Chris Babb based on a report on November 25 in which the victim reported a break-in at their residence. Items were taken and Babb developed Clay and Brittany Nicole Labonte as the alleged suspects. Labonte was arrested in Hanover County, Virginia, on March 22 and held until she waived extradition to North Carolina. She was charged with obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods.

On Monday, Babb and Investigator Gorton Williams traveled to Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover where they took Clay into custody, charging him on Roanoke Rapids and Weldon warrants.

He faces charges of two counts breaking and entering; two counts larceny after breaking and entering; two counts possession of stolen goods and larceny of a motor vehicle. He received a $15,000 bond and July 27 court date.

Unrelated arrest

Meanwhile, Hasty reported on June 23, Garysburg police Chief Melvin Garner arrested Dontayvious Cotton, 22, of Garysburg, on outstanding warrants from Roanoke Rapids.

Cotton faces charges of breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; possession of stolen goods; injury to property and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

The charges stem from an investigation by Williams on June 5 when the victim reported their residence in the 500 block of Riverview Court was broken into and items taken.

Cotton received a $10,000 bond and an August 17 court date.
