RRPD blotter: July 25-27, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Monday July 25, 2016
At approximately 2 p.m., Officer Hannah Grimes conducted a traffic stop for a violation on East Littleton Road.
Grimes learned the driver’s license of Maurice Tirrell Dinkins, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, was revoked and he had an outstanding order for arrest.
Grimes arrested and charged Dinkins with driving while license revoked, failure to stop for a stop sign and served the outstanding order.
He received an $815 bond and September 9 court date.
Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and Master Officer Roy Ball assisted.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Lieutenant Perry Parks responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported to Halifax Central Justin Roger Nowell, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, took items and fled the store.
Officers located Nowell near the intersection of Chockoyotte Street and Highway 158 and took him into custody.
Nowell was charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods and trespassing.
He received a $5,000 bond and July 29 court date.
Jenkins, Master Officer Adam Salmon and Officer Jamie Hardy assisted.
Tuesday July 26, 2016
At approximately 1:45 p.m., Ball and Hardy responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention told Halifax Central people were running out of the store into the parking lot.
Officers located Jonathan Pilgrim, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, and Ashley Branch, 18, and Shawte Shaniqua Williams, 23, both of Garysburg.
Loss prevention reported they took items and attempted to return them for a refund.
Branch was arrested and charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense, larceny, possession of stolen goods and conspiracy. She received a $1,500 bond.
Williams was arrested and charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods and served an outstanding order for arrest. She received a $1,000 bond.
Pilgrim was arrested and charged with trespassing and conspiracy. He received a $5,000 bond.
All have August 12 court dates.
Parks assisted.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Officer Scott Blythe responded to a call from Halifax Central someone was following a vehicle containing stolen items from their residence in Virginia.
Blythe conducted a traffic stop on Roanoke Avenue and Ninth Street. He determined Jonathan C. Cavanaugh, 40, of Roanoke Rapids, was the driver.
During the stop Blythe discovered Cavanaugh’s license was revoked and he was in possession of stolen items from Virginia.
Cavanaugh was arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods and driving while license revoked. He received a $5,000 bond and September 9 court date.
The Greensville County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and secured warrants for the crimes in Virginia. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be pending.
Captain Andy Bryant and Jenkins assisted.
At approximately 5 p.m., Jenkins attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
The driver, Garrett Michael Dunlow, 17, of Henrico, was slow to stop for blue lights and siren but stopped at Julian Allsbrook and Buffaloe Street.
During the stop Dunlow was found to be in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.
Jenkins arrested and charged Dunlow with possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, exceeding a safe speed and failure to stop for blue lights and siren.
He received a $1,000 bond and September 9 court date.

Wednesday July 27, 2016
At approximately 12:30 p.m., Ball responded to several calls about an intoxicated person asking for money and harassing people at restaurants on Julian Allsbrook.
Ball located Herman Blount Jr., 54 of Gaston, inside one of the businesses causing a disturbance.
Blount, who was arrested for drunk and disruptive, received a $500 bond and August 12 court date.
Parks and Jenkins assisted.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Ball saw Dinkins (see first blotter entry) driving in the 1900 block of Daniels Street. When Ball attempted to stop him, he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee.
He was caught and arrested and charged with driving while license revoked and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.
He received a $1,000 bond and September 9 court date.
Parks assisted.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., several units responded to a disturbance call involving a firearm on Madison Street.
Jenkins located the suspect vehicle at Madison and Third streets and conducted a traffic stop.
During the stop a concealed handgun was found in the vehicle.
Sakwon Artavas Bowser, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon. He received a $1,000 bond and a September 9 court date.
Ball, Colson and Officer Chris Biggerstaff assisted.
