Gaston Fire and Rescue was dispatched alongside the Garysburg Fire Department to a residential structure fire this morning.

Gaston Chief Ed Porter Jr. said in a statement firefighters responded shortly after 3:45 to a residence on Washington Street in Garysburg.
The house was engulfed as firefighters arrived.
The occupant was found outside and unharmed. He told firefighters he saw smoke coming from the kitchen and exited the residence.
Firefighters contained the fire within 10 minutes of arrival.
Fire crews remained on scene for nearly three hours to perform overhaul.
Northampton County EMS and Gaston EMS were also on the scene performing firefighter rehab.
The probable cause of the fire, which displaced the resident, is still under investigation. It is not suspected to be suspicious.
