A man arrested earlier this week by Roanoke Rapids police was served warrants today by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office for a June vehicle break-in.

JONATHAN CAVANAUGH

Detective B.C. Griffin said the crimes for which he served to Jonathan Christopher Cavanaugh are not related to the charges Roanoke Rapids filed.
The 40-year-old Roanoke Rapids man is being held on the Roanoke Rapids charges, a fugitive warrant from Virginia and Griffin’s charges of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny, possession of stolen property, and obtaining property by false pretense.
Griffin said his charges stem from a June 27 vehicle break-in in the Roanoke Rapids area of Highway 158 in which two pole saws and rope were stolen. The items were pawned but have been returned to the owner.
The Roanoke Rapids charges, which stem from a matter Tuesday, involve the owner of property Cavanaugh allegedly stole from their residence being charged by Officer Scott Blythe.
He received a $5,000 bond for the Roanoke Rapids charges and a $10,000 bond on the county charges The fugitive warrant from Virginia deems he be held without opportunity for bond.
He has an August 24 court date on Griffin’s charges.
