A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged with 45 counts of second-degree rape and one count of extortion related to alleged sexual assaults which occurred between September and November.

Parker

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said this afternoon Danny Thomas Parker, 36, reportedly committed the sexual assaults on an adult victim with a mental disability. The extortion count, Hall said, reflects that Parker was using potentially harmful information against the victim to force them to comply throughout the commission of the crimes, which occurred from September 13 through November 29.
Hall said Parker was an acquaintance of the victim.
In a statement on the matter Hall said the sheriff’s office responded to a local medical facility from where the report was filed. Investigation was conducted by Deputy B. Warren and Detective Matt Brown.
Through that investigation Parker was charged with the counts on November 30 and jailed on $150,000 secured bond. He has a December 28 court date.
Hall noted in the statement Brown continues to investigate the matter and more charges could be forthcoming.
