A careless and reckless driving call on Interstate 95 this morning led to the seizure of more than 2 pounds of marijuana from a South Carolina man.

The events which led to the arrest of Javon Lamont Williams, 30, of Charleston, began with a report to 911 of a vehicle being driven erratically shortly after 3:30 a.m., City County Drug Task Force Captain A.M. Harris said this morning.
Harris said a motorist called to report Williams “was all over the roadway” and was headed north.
The captain said in a statement Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Corporal S.A. Bryant responded to the call. Bryant and Harris located the vehicle, which was slow to stop. The driver eventually stopped at a convenience store in Weldon.
Officers learned the man was Williams and Halifax Central Communications advised South Carolina had suspended his license.
Harris said in the statement as he talked with Williams he could smell the odor of marijuana wafting from the vehicle.
The man refused several verbal commands to step out of the vehicle and eventually was stunned by a Taser using a drive stun technique where the electronic probes are not deployed.
Harris said this morning Williams was not injured from the use of the Taser.
During the search of the vehicle with the assistance from Weldon Police Department Sergeant T.L. Mason and his dog, Rio, five pre-rolled marijuana blunts, a handgun and approximately 976 grams of marijuana was seized.
Roanoke Rapids Police Department Lieutenant P. Parks and Sergeant D. Jenkins also assisted.
Bryant arrested and charged Williams with felony possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting a public officer and driving while license revoked. Williams received a $10,000 bond with a December 14 court date.
Harris said this morning Williams was going to the District of Columbia to spend two weeks with his brother. He said the man declined to discuss the marijuana in the vehicle.
