The county seat of Halifax will continue its celebration of the Christmas season, which it began last week with a tree-lighting ceremony, in several ways Saturday.

The day will be highlighted by the annual Christmas parade down King Street at 2 p.m.
Both the historic site and library will have events.

Library

Events at the library, located at 33 Granville Street, begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature music, activities and a classic Christmas movie marathon which will feature Rudolph, Charlie Brown and the Grinch.
Santa Claus will be at the library at 11 a.m. to read to children and listen to their gift requests.
The library will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

Historic Site

The state Historic Site will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will have guided and self-guided tours of the Tap Room, Eagle Tavern, the 1838 jail, the Burgess Law Office and the Sally-Billy House.
The Tap Room will be a toy room where children can visit with Santa after the parade.

Other events

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be tours of the Church of Immaculate Conception
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church will be open for tours
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. a soup and sandwich luncheon will be held at Halifax United Methodist Church
From 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Hen and the Hog will be selling hot chocolate and specialty popcorn
Bass House will be open throughout the day featuring holiday sale items

Parade

The parade is being held in conjunction with the other events in town and this year organizers are partnering with Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp.
Parade entrants are asked to bring an unwrapped, new toy for the sheriff’s office toy drive or a canned food item for the sheriff’s office food pantry.
Tripp said this is the second year the sheriff’s office has done the toy drive. “We’re helping those less fortunate in the Scotland Neck-Hobgood area.”
Toys can be dropped off at New Day Fitness in Roanoke Rapids.
The food pantry is year-round, Tripp said, and anyone wishing to make a donation may call him at 252-578-6761 and arrange for pick-up.
The sheriff’s office is also conducting a coat drive and is asking for new or gently used coats which can be dropped off at Cut-N Up Salon on Becker Drive in Roanoke Rapids.
Tripp said he is looking at a coat handout later in January to be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Highway 158 outside Littleton.
Deputies will be delivering food throughout Christmas to needy families, the sheriff said. “We’re very thankful for the generous donations and those who have selflessly given to our cause and the Roanoke Rapids Police and other organizations.”
